How do I install the top tether (top strap) correctly?

Answer

Using the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) installing system, attach the top tether from the child seat to the anchor in the vehicle. After you fasten the lower attachments to the lower anchors of the vehicle, attach the child safety seat’s top tether to the vehicle’s anchor and pull tightly. When all is secure, the child’s seat should not move more than an inch sideways or forward.

  • Vehicles manufactured after 1989 have pre-drilled holes, but need to have the anchor hardware installed. Most vehicles after 9/1/99 have the anchor hardware already installed. Please refer to your vehicle owner's manual or call your vehicle dealership for more information regarding the installation of the tether in your vehicle.
